For me, cultural tourism means understanding a place through its heritage, residents and ways of life. Monuments are one part of the journey; the questions we ask and the time we spend observing matter too.
Turning a list of sights into a story
A route becomes more meaningful with a connecting theme. It might explore a historical period, the relationship between cities and trade, or food. The theme helps determine which stops to include and how they relate.
How I prepare a cultural experience
- Listen to the group's interests and existing knowledge.
- Select places that offer different perspectives on the theme.
- Plan travel time, breaks and opportunities for questions.
- Include spaces of local life while respecting residents.
Adapting the journey
A first-time visitor to Turkey may need an overview. Someone familiar with the destination may prefer archaeology, neighbourhoods or food. The same city can support very different routes.
Experience in Turkey and Spain helps me adapt explanations and cultural references in English, Spanish and Turkish. The aim is to leave each visit with a richer understanding of the destination.
